Anthropic's Amended Filing Discloses $895.4 Billion in Compute Commitments (Update to Issue 71)
Anthropic filed an S-1 amendment on 2026-11-02 disclosing about $895.4 billion of compute and infrastructure commitments, confirmed by two sources, the original SEC filing and several independent reports; offering terms remain blank.

- 01THE ANNOUNCEMENT — Anthropic files an S-1 amendment with the SEC on 2026-11-02, filling in the total compute commitments and third-quarter results left blank in the original.
- 02THE CONFIRMATION — The body of the original SEC filing confirms the $895.4 billion figure, and several independent reports cross-confirm the breakdown, quarterly results and the new risk-factor language.
- 03THE WATCHPOINT — Whether the next filing fills in the offering price and share count, and the actual delivery pace of committed capacity.
WHAT HAPPENEDWhat Happened
On 2026-11-02, Anthropic filed an amendment to its Form S-1 (S-1/A) with the US SEC, filling in the key figures left blank in the original filing of October 26: as of dates after 2026-09-30, the company's purchase commitments and leases total about $895.4 billion, almost all of it for compute and infrastructure.
Broken down in the filing, about $69.8 billion falls due within 12 months after 2026-09-30, about $447.5 billion is expected to occur before the end of 2030, and the rest falls mainly between 2031 and 2045; the contractual obligations table as of 2026-09-30 itself totals $320 billion.
The amendment also fills in third-quarter results: revenue of about $17 billion in Q3 2026 and $33.2 billion for the first nine months; a Q3 operating loss of $567 million and a net loss of $23.291 billion, most of it from non-cash fair-value changes on convertible notes and similar items.
The filing still sets no offering terms: the price range, share count and listing date are all blank. It confirms only that the company has applied to list its Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the proposed ticker ANT. According to TechCrunch's reading of the filing, the risk factors add language saying internal expectations indicate future models may soon meet the definition in the company's responsible scaling policy of AI substantially accelerating its own progress.
This item updates an existing article: Issue 71 of this site, covering the October 26 original filing, covered the first version; this item is the amendment's follow-up.
WHY IT MATTERSCommitments Are Not Bills, but the Scale Itself Is the Signal
$895.4 billion is not money already spent; it is a combined ceiling of commitments plus leases, part of it carrying termination rights or conditions precedent, and another part payable only once counterparties deliver capacity. Reading commitments as cash spending would overstate the current burn rate.
Even discounted, the figure writes Anthropic's compute dependence into a legal document: the filing says the company's ability to meet its commitments depends on achieving significant revenue growth, and if supplier financing tightens, contracted capacity could be delayed, repriced, reduced or not delivered at all.
SIGNAL JUDGMENT — ANALYSISThe Signal Is in the Structure of the Commitments, Not the Headline Number
Tokenta Signal's judgment: the point of this amendment is not the $895.4 billion itself, but its structure: nearly half falls due before 2030, more than $200 billion carries conditions, and over $150 billion more is not counted in the total. What to watch next is whether the next version of the filing fills in the offering price, and how much of these commitments actually converts into delivered capacity, rather than the commitment figure growing larger still.
